Topography
The continental divide cuts right through the ranch and offers spectacular elevation changes and panoramic views. The valley floor, which encompasses about one-third of the ranch, is between 1,300 and 2,000 feet above sea-level. The valley floor raises to rolling hills that have streams and waterfalls cascading down them and dropping at times through many individual canyons. The top of the mountain range is around 6,000 feet above sea-level and is snow-capped during much of the year and provides a beautiful high plateau range to the east with thousands of acres of beech trees and a water basin that feeds numerous streams and small creeks that eventually create the famous river Tecka, prolific with brook trout. Directly and immediately to the west of the property are the AndesMountains and the border with Chile with views for hundred of miles to the north and south of snow and glacier capped mountains with jagged peaks and granite domes and distant waterfalls. Just twenty miles away when you cross over the border into Chile you immediately enter a completely different rainforest terrain of cliffs, lush, green vegetation, deep canyons and deep and crystle clear rivers that flow slowly and at times crash through to the Pacific Ocean a mere sixty miles away. Interestingly, the CorcovadoRiver, which flows through the ranch starts at Lago Palena in Chile, flows back in to Argentina and the Estancia El Palenque and the turns its course and cuts through the Andes to the Pacific Ocean. It is this journey up stream that the Salmon take every year.

Getting There
Major airlines fly in to Buenos Aires from all over the world such as American, Continental, United and numerous European carriers as well. Flights that leave Chicago, New York, Atlanta or Miami generally arrive in the morning and a lunch daycommerical jet flight of less than two hours will have you at Esquel and on the ranch soon thereafter. From practically every location in the U.S. you can be on the ranch within 24 hours.

Improvements
The improvements on the estancia include a fishing lodge with a great room and fireplace that sleeps up to 5 people and has cooking and dining facilities. There is a caretakers cottage and two additional homes for workers and visitors that will sleep an additional 6 people. Additionally there is an owner's cabin that will sleep up to 6 people. It was recently hand constructed by old-school artisans using the timber grown and harvested on the ranch. The property also has working corrals, a large horse barn and storage shed. The owner has recently completed around 40 miles of new fencing enclosing the ranch and creating separate pastures so that the cow/calf capacity of the ranch could be increased from 400 cow/calf pair to 600.
