The Johnson Sheep Mountain Ranch typifies gorgeous scenery, rough canyons, rich grasslands, granite peaks and river bottoms distinguishing the south central portion of Wyoming, rising just above the Great Plains in the foothills of the Laramie Mountain Range just west of Wheatland, Wyoming. It has excellent access, only three hours north of Denver, and presents an unprecedented value for asset preservation in today’s market. It is a prime, sporting ranch with ideal habitat for trophy elk and mule deer, and also offers world-class fly-fishing along private stretches of the North Laramie River.

The ranch consists of approximately 3,514 deeded acres in one contiguous block. In addition, the ranch leases adjoining public lands including 280 acres of Wyoming State Lands and 160 acres of Bureau of Land Management lands. The property adjoins the Medicine Bow National Forest, and there is a portion of the National Forest completely located within its boundaries providing outstanding wildlife habitat and backcountry recreational opportunities. It has a beautiful varied topography ranging between river canyons, rolling grassy hillsides with ponderosa pines, unique granite mountainsides with craggy peaks and steep ravines. Elevations of the ranch range from 5,180 feet to 6,200 feet at the top of Sheep Mountain.


The area is reach in pioneer history as the Oregon, Mormon and Immigrant Trails all passed in this area around the North Platte River. You can find hand carved inscriptions of early immigrants in the sandstone cliffs at Register Cliff near Guernesy and deep ruts carved by thousands of wagon wheels that passed through.


Johnson Sheep Mountain Ranch is conveniently located in southeast Wyoming and provides easy access to nearby towns and regional airports. The ranch is 15 miles from Phifer Airfield, which offers private air service including a 5,900 foot paved runway with jet fuel. It’s only 180 miles from Denver, Colorado, 70 miles from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and 100 miles from Casper, Wyoming.

Wheatland, Wyoming, with a population of approximately 3,500, is the county seat for Platte County. The town offers a number of grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, banks, hospital, veterinary services, farm equipment dealers and feed stores. It is conveniently located just 15 miles from the ranch along Interstate 25.


The Wheatland area receives approximately 13 inches of rainfall per year and averages 41 inches of snowfall. There are generally 230 sunny days per year and high temperatures range from 89 degrees in July to 41 degrees in January.
