Pikes Peak Sporting Retreat - Colorado, Park County, Lake George

This 1,000 acre sporting ranch sits at the base of the slopes of the Thirtynine Mile Mountain with unobstructed views of Pikes Peak, the Tarryall Mountains, the Mosquito Range, Elevenmile Reservoir and the blue ribbon stretch of the South Platte River dubbed the “Dream Stream.” The Pike National Forest adjoins the property to the south and there is an additional 1,200 acres of BLM that adjoins the property on the west, south and east. The topography of the property varies in elevation from 8,600’-9,300’ and is comprised of open meadows, pine covered hillsides and thick aspen draws which support thriving populations of elk and mule deer. Union and Gilead Creeks both flow through the property feeding the numerous trout ponds.

Main Home
The timber and post home was constructed to blend in to the pine covered hilltop and provides dramatic views of the surrounding rocky mountain landscape. The home was designed by Charles Cunniffe Architects out of Aspen, Colorado and completed in 2000. With 8,439 sq. ft. of finished space on two floors and a loft, this home is capable of accommodating all of your friends, family and guests. The home was constructed completely off the grid and utilizes state of the art solar and wind generated systems outside the home as well as systems inside the home to increase efficiency such as the in-floor radiant heating system.

The grand entrance to the main level opens to a two story great room complete with a kitchen and dining area. The 3,994 sq. ft. main level has slate floors and exposed rough sawn cedar beams throughout, and there is over 2,800 sq. ft. of covered porch area wrapping around the entire perimeter of the home. The kitchen is equipped with high-end stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops and with two dishwashers and dual kitchen islands for additional counter space and is capable of accommodating a large gathering of people. A powder room and full-sized laundry area are also located on the main floor. There is a separate master wing off the main level complete with its own fireplace, porch and oversized bathroom equipped with dual sinks, a Jacuzzi tub and steam shower. There is also a 773 sq. ft. lofted office area over the kitchen.

The lower level has an additional 3,712 sq. ft. of living area in the basement with 4 queen bedroom suites and two additional bunk rooms with a total 5 bunk beds, 7 bathrooms in all, a 2nd laundry room with 2 washing machines and a big recreational area with a walkout covered patio and hot tub. The open basement has a wet bar/ kitchen nook, stone fireplace, a media centre and a pool table. The control stations for the home’s water and sound systems are also in the basement, as well as ample storage space.

Guest Home
Located down the hill along the creek bottom sits the nice guest/ranch manager’s home and ranch outbuildings. The 1,380 sq. ft. two story home is set within the aspen trees overlooking several of the trout ponds. Surrounding the home are the remnants of the original structures of the ranch that homesteaded the area.


The ranch is situated in the hills just to the west of Elevenmile Reservoir near Lake George, Colorado. The ranch is approximately 60 miles from Colorado Springs and 120 miles from Denver. Woodland Park and Buena Vista are both nice sized communities and each located within about 45 miles of the ranch.


Located west of Colorado Springs, the natural areas around the property have plenty to offer vacationers. Adventures range from viewing fossils and petrified redwoods at nearby Florissant Fossil Beds, to fishing, skiing and hiking. In the winter, the Breckenridge ski slopes are only a short 55 miles away. Woodland Park is about 45 miles east of the ranch and offers everything from grocery stores to movie theatres and medical care. Buena Vista is also a thriving community along the Arkansas River about 50 miles to the west, and is a popular destination for whitewater raters and kayakers. Commercial air service is available in just over an hours drive to Colorado Springs Airport or in about 2.5 hours to Denver International Airport.


Daytime temperatures in the winter months typically hover around the upper 30s or lower 40s, while in the summer months the daytime temperature is usually in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Annual precipitation is estimated to be 15 inches with August being the wettest month. The elevation on the ranch ranges from 8,600’-9,300’.
