Hunting
- Birch Creek is home to four big game species: Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, pronghorn antelope and Shiras moose. The property receives guaranteed tags for all four species through Utah’s CWMU (Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit) program. Each unit owner will receive 1 bull elk tag every other year. In “odd” years, that unit owner will receive 1 buck deer tag.
- Deer and elk quality are strong. In autumn 2009, the owners harvested 5 bull elk with a 329” average. The biggest bull grossed over 340.” Mule Deer up to 190” have been harvested on the ranch.
- Currently the ranch receives two bull moose tags per year, but in the interest of long-term herd health and quality, Carrus management has decided that for now only one tag shall be used. Market value for the moose tag is approximately $12,000.
Fishing
- The ranch supports an excellent population of Bonneville cutthroat trout in Birch Creek and Sugar Pine Creek. Birch Creek is a classic oxbow round rock stream with multiple natural ponds and excellent willow habitat, and the trout are plentiful.
- Birch Creek Reservoir (part of which is only accessible by land through the ranch) is stocked by the UDWR every year and holds healthy populations of large rainbow, tiger and cutthroat trout.
Recreation
- The gently rolling topography and adjacent huge expanse of National Forest land make Birch Creek an ideal property for horse, ATV, snowmobile and mountain biking enthusiasts.
- The Monte Cristo Road is groomed and open for snowmobiling during the winter, and there are many improved, maintained summer and groomed winter trails in the adjacent Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
- Other opportunities include camping, bird watching, canoeing, and other general outdoor activities.
