Collegiate Peaks Ranch is located amidst central Colorados sporting paradise, as it is literally surrounded by national forest lands and wilderness that one can explore on foot or horseback, world-class whitewater, fishing, hunting, peak-bagging hikes, mountain biking, and skiing. Just a couple miles away to the west are numerous trailheads accessing both the San Isabel National Forest and Collegiate Peaks Wilderness, and just to the east, the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness.
Fishing
- Gold medal trout fishing is nearby in the Arkansas River.

Recreation
- Fifteen 14,000-foot peaks in the Sawatch Range (of which the Collegiate Peaks are a subset range) are within 20 air miles of Collegiate Peaks Ranch; Mt. Columbia and Mt. Harvard together form the massif that is the vista to the west and can both be scaled in one strenuous, non-technical (Class II) day (approx 13 miles round-trip) beginning from the property. The others can be climbed beginning from short drives to nearby trailheads. All fifteen Fourteeners are Class II non-technical hikes.
- Heckendorf State Wildlife Area is adjacent to the ranch.
- The Arkansas River and its thrilling whitewater lies just a few miles below Collegiate Peaks Ranch, with several outfitters located in the Buena Vista area.
- Downhill skiing at Monarch and Ski Cooper is less than an hour drive; Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Vail are approx. one hour.
- Monarch Crest Trail is only 45 minutes away and provides world-class, epic mountain-biking in a high alpine setting. Many other mountain-biking trails for all levels also nearby.
