Muddy Creek Ranch is a big game and bird hunting paradise. The property lies in the northern portion of Wyoming Game Management Unit 34, which has produced 10 bull elk grossing over 380" B&C in the last 7 years. This is simply one of the best big bull areas in the country. Moreover, the current owners have carefully fostered and protected their game resources through extremely selective harvest practices, and it has paid off. With continued careful management and habitat development, year-after-year opportunities for bulls grossing 350"+ is not an unreasonable expectation at Muddy Creek.
Large numbers of above-average mule deer, whitetails, and plenty of antelope inhabit this ranch as well. Hunters could reasonably expect to harvest 4 or 5 mule deer grossing 155" - 175" B&C every year. Mature whitetails in this country will gross 150" B&C. Landowner permits are available for all four big-game species.
Merriam's turkeys are plentiful, and good populations of Hungarian partridge, pheasants, and sharp-tailed grouse live here. Populations of all of the above could be even further augmented through careful resource management and further habitat development.
There are two reservoirs on the State Lease portion of the property. The Muddy Guard 1 is approximately 17 acres and is recognized as a trophy trout fishery for rainbows that range from 12 to 25 inches, with browns also present. It is stocked by the Wyoming Game and Fish Dept., and locals proclaim it one of the best still-water fisheries in the area, as it consistently yields 10+ pound rainbow trout. The similarly size Patch Reservoir is primarily used for irrigation, but the owner's do have a recreational lease to use it. A third reservoir, the Muddy Guard 2 consisting of approximately 36 acres, is located on adjoining State Land, and is also known as an excellent fishery. Small native trout are found in the ranch's numerous spring-fed streams and creeks.
In addition to the incredible hunting and fishing opportunities, Muddy Creek offers general year-round mountain recreation including hiking, rock climbing, horseback and ATV opportunities, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and mountain biking.
