River Rise Ranch

Location

The River Rise Ranch is located at the base of the Absaroka Mountains, approximately 6 miles North East of Meeteetse, Wyoming, 24 Miles South of Cody, Wyoming, and 76 miles from Yellowstone National Park.  The Absaroka Mountains are truly one of the most remote, expansive and wild mountain ranges in the lower 48 States.

Improvements

The River Rise Ranch offers a very private setting with easy access directly off a well-maintained county road. The improvements are modern and well maintained, complete with a custom built 1,556 square foot main house, 720 +- square foot guesthouse, 40’x132’ horse barn/equipment shed, and lighted outdoor arena, all with great functionality and the perfect layout.  The main house has considerable interior upgrades, including granite countertops, oak cabinets, and wood flooring.  The home is very comfortable with great views and natural lighting through the picture windows facing the Absaroka mountains to the west.  The horse barn runs/paddocks  and arena are constructed of heavy duty steel, built to last.

History

“The Meeteetse area is rich in history with the expansive Pitchfork Ranch, famous as one the west’s true cattle empires. It was the first cattle ranching operation of the Big Horn Basin, established in 1879 by Otto Franc. By 1900, thousands of cattle grazed along the Greybull River and Wood River Valleys. Although first discovered on the John Hogg Ranch, the Pitchfork is also well known for the fact the last known colony of an endangered species thought to be extinct, the Black Footed Ferret, was found on its grasslands. Noted outlaw Butch Cassidy lived in Meeteetse. In 1886, he signed a petition for the new bridge, and in 1894, he was arrested in front of the Cowboy Bar. Fishing

The Rive Rise Ranch boasts a very healthy population of Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout with its private access along 2/3-mile of both sides of the Greybull River. This stretch of the river is private, including many miles above and below the ranch property, allowing trout to reach their trophy potential with some exceeding the 20-inch mark.  The pristine Greybull River is the go to river for anglers seeking the Wyoming Cut Slam.

Recreation

The River Rise Ranch is an excellent opportunity to own a cast and blast operation within one of the most aesthetically appealing areas within Wyoming. Due to the close proximity to Yellowstone and the thousands of other acres of public lands and waterways the area bounds in recreational opportunities such as skiing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, white water rafting, horseback riding, photography, and wildlife viewing.

Hunting

The River Rise Ranch is a wildlife haven with the productive hay meadows and expansive riparian corridor which provides valuable bedding habitat for trophy quality elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, and moose.  The foothill habitat adjacent to the ranch supports a healthy local herd of elk, with bulls exceeding 400” B&C taken in recent past. Elusive trophy white-tailed deer also in the area, with the largest white-tail ever harvested in the State of Wyoming, 262” B&C, taken within a few miles of River Rise Ranch.  Other upland game found on the ranch includes wild Merriam’s turkey and occasionally wild pheasant.

Ranch Operations

The River Rise Ranch supports a productive hay base and is very suitable to a small horse operation.  There are approximately 97 acres of irrigated ground, producing up to 3.5 – 4.0 tons/acre of hay annually.  In addition to State adjudicated water rights out of the Greybull River, there is also up to an additional 339 acre feet of stored reservoir water available for late season irrigation, if needed.
