Wolf Mountain Ranch is considered a world class big-game hunting ranch in the Rocky Mountain Region, especially for archery elk and archery/rifle mule deer hunting. One of the misconceptions about Montana and the licensing system is that landowners are not eligible for guaranteed landowner licenses. At the core this is true, although Montana does have a landowner preference drawing in place which does give landowners a much better chance of drawing licenses for the hunt district that their property is located.
For instance, the 2013 Montana Elk Permit draw statistics report shows that non-resident landowners in hunt district 702 (Wolf Mountain Ranch) were successful in drawing both the archery only elk license (370 licenses available and on 7 first choice applicants,* 900-15) or the rifle elk license (17 licenses available and only 3 first choice applicants, *799-20). In comparison, the report shows that the draw odds for non-residents in the regular drawing (non landowner) were 60% for the archery only license and 2% for the rifle elk license. For mule deer, hunt district 702 is a general license hunt district, and has been a 100% draw for the past several years as well.
