Purgatoire Peak Ranch

Located between the renowned Tercio, Cielo Vista and Hill Ranches in big game unit 851, Purgatoire Peak Ranch consists of approximately 10,500 acres of unspoiled wilderness with elevations ranging from 8,500’-13,600’. The current owner has strictly managed the property as a wildlife refuge with very limited hunting pressure. The ranch is a fantastic elk hunting property and also contains a significant population of bighorn sheep.

Improvements

The landowner has refurbished an older building that historically was used as a sawmill into a comfortable home. The front half of the building has three bedrooms and baths, a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, and a courtyard area. The back half of the building features large garage doors that open into a spacious garage, storage area, and skinning facility. There is also a small, one-bedroom, one-bath caretaker’s home. Other improvements include numerous miles of improved roads, with over 150 new culverts installed to enhance drainage and minimize erosion. Several thousand acres of timber have been thinned to mitigate fire danger, improve overall forest health, and enhance wildlife habitat. In addition to the thinning, an additional 500 +/- acres have been cleared and replanted with wildlife-friendly seed mixes. In addition, several dirt tanks have been built, increasing water sources for wildlife.

Fishing:

Johnson Creek bisects the ranch for many miles and is a good small stream fishery for brook, cutthroat, and brown trout.
