As part of our 20th anniversary, we’re reflecting on some of the most memorable sales in Mirr Ranch Group history. One that stands out is Fundo Los Leones, a breathtaking coastal retreat in Chile’s Aysén Region. Sold in 2017, this transaction represented not only the sale of an extraordinary property, but also the continuation of a global conservation legacy.

Located at the northern tip of Chile’s Aysén Region, Fundo Los Leones stretches along six miles of private shoreline on the Pitipalena Fjord and five miles of the Palena River as it flows into the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the world, the property is home to three species of whales, twelve species of dolphins, sea lions, otters, and countless bird and marine species.

The ranch featured cozy seaside cabins overlooking the fjord, a Chilean-designed main home, sustainable gardens, an organic sheep farm, and six charming guest cottages. With nearby national parks, glacier-clad volcanoes, and direct access to world-class fly fishing, kayaking, and wildlife viewing, Fundo Los Leones was truly one of the most unique retreats in the world.

Fundo Los Leones was previously owned by renowned conservationists Douglas Tompkins, co-founder of The North Face, and his wife, Kristine Tompkins, former CEO of Patagonia. Their work established a long-standing tradition of conservation at Los Leones. The seller wanted to honor that legacy and ensure the property was passed on to a buyer who would continue to steward the land responsibly.

Mirr Ranch Group leveraged its international marketing platform and conservation-focused network to identify buyers who valued the property’s ecological significance. By aligning with like-minded stewards, we positioned Fundo Los Leones not just as a premier sporting property, but as a piece of the larger conservation story unfolding in Chilean Patagonia.

The eventual buyer shared the same conservation ethic as the Tompkins, carrying forward Fundo Los Leones as both a high-end sporting property and an ecological sanctuary. The transaction highlighted the importance of connecting buyers and sellers who share a vision for land stewardship.

The sale of Fundo Los Leones highlights Mirr Ranch Group’s unique expertise in handling properties where legacy, conservation, and recreation intersect. As we celebrate 20 years, we’re proud to have played a role in continuing the stewardship of such an extraordinary landscape, and we look forward to sharing more stories of sales that shaped our history.
