Surrounding the historic ranching community of Hartsel, the Preserve offers a wide array of opportunities for recreation, agriculture, and development. Featuring a diverse topography that includes thousands of acres of sub-irrigated meadows, the forested slopes of Reinecker Ridge, and healthy riparian habitats, the ranch supports grazing cattle and buffalo, as well as a healthy deer, elk, and pronghorn population. The Preserve is also home to over eleven miles of live water, four miles of which are classified as “Gold Medal Water” by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

Featuring:

• Both Fourmile Creek and the Middle Fork of the South Platte River flow through The Preserve, offering world-class fly fishing opportunities. The “Gold Medal Water” on the ranch has historically been a spawning ground for migrating brown trout.
  
• A portion of the ranch has been pre-approved as a Planned Unit Development (PUD), entitled for 151 residential lots.
  
• The eastern portion of The Preserve has been protected with a conservation easement held by Colorado Open Lands, ensuring that the ranch’s natural resources and wildlife will be protected in perpetuity.
  
• Ranch facilities include the historic James House, several barns and corrals.
