Upper Big Red Creek Ranch: A Clean Slate on Muddy Mountain in Wyoming
Mirr Ranch Group presents Upper Big Red Creek Ranch, 520± deeded acres of open mountain country set along Big Red Creek in Natrona County, Wyoming. Listed at $2,950,000, the parcel sits about 20 miles south of Casper. It carries no improvements, no grazing leases, and no conservation easement: a clean slate in every direction.
All deeded, with nothing to undo
Every acre is deeded and none of it is committed. Highway access is a rare advantage for mountain acreage in this area, and the surrounding country holds established subdivisions and summer-cabin and second-home developments around Casper and Casper Mountain.
The natural uses follow: a private homesite, a family retreat, or a long-term investment. The seller will convey any owned mineral rights, and with no easement in place, the conservation options stay open too.
The neighbors widen the picture. The adjoining Big Red Creek Ranch, with its new hangar, barn, and corrals, plus nearly 8,000 acres of BLM and State leases, is offered separately. The two Big Red Creek offerings are also available in combination with Thieves’ Den Ranch.

Unit 19 elk country with a homestead past
The ground was part of the Cheney family’s cattle operation in the Bates Hole community. Jim Cheney was born on the homestead in 1905, and his son Bob purchased the ranch from his parents in 1987.
The hunting country around it carries weight. Unit 19 is premier trophy elk country, with bulls over 340 inches harvested regularly. Unit 32 antelope can push 80-inch class in wetter years, Unit 66 holds both mule deer and whitetail, and the property may qualify for landowner tags. The Big Red Creek riparian corridor holds plentiful wild turkeys.
Muddy Mountain tops out at 8,287 feet on the northern range of the Laramie Mountains. Nearby recreation runs from Casper Mountain’s riding, biking, and hiking trails to Hogadon Basin skiing and ATV roads on Muddy Mountain BLM land.
The Blue Ribbon North Platte River, Alcova Reservoir, and Pathfinder Reservoir are close by, and Natrona County International Airport offers flights to Denver and Salt Lake City.
In his notes on the listing, Jared Souza, Senior Vice President at Mirr Ranch Group, sums it up as “520 deeded acres of Muddy Mountain country with highway access.” He calls it “a rare blank canvas for a mountain home, retreat, or hunting property just south of Casper.”
