Field Notes 2025: A Note of Reflection on the Last 20 Years

As Mirr Ranch Group marks its 20th year, I’m reminded that our work has never been about simply brokering land. From the beginning, the goal was to understand each property in its full context — its history, its constraints, its potential — and to help guide thoughtful transitions that respect both the land and the people connected to it.

Over the years, certain transactions stand out not just because of their size, but because of what they required.

The sale of St. Benedict’s Monastery is one of the most meaningful examples, made even more special by the fact that it closed in our 20th year. This was a complex, highly personal transition that began long before the property ever came to market. We spent years working alongside the Trappist monks to understand their vision, the land's history, the surrounding community, and what stewardship should look like in its next chapter. Navigating land-use, title, and planning considerations required patience and care, but, more importantly, trust. That process reinforced the responsibility we carry in moments where legacy matters as much as outcome.

Other transactions reflect similar values at different moments in our firm’s history. Trees Ranch represented an early milestone and helped set the trajectory for the type of work we wanted to pursue. Conservation-focused properties like JE Canyon Ranch and Mantle Ranch highlighted the importance of long-term stewardship and thoughtful ownership. Wasatch Peaks Ranch exemplified the power of relationships and preparation, where years of groundwork and collaboration shaped a successful outcome well before the ranch ever reached the open market.

While our ethos has always been that listings bring buyers, cultivating and deepening buyer relationships over time has been one of the most rewarding parts of our work. Some buyers are ready to move quickly, but more often, the right purchase takes years to come together. These searches frequently carry us both on-market and off-market, evolving as a buyer’s vision becomes clearer.

Some of my favorite buyer journeys include Bar Cross Ranch, where we helped a client thoughtfully assemble multiple properties into a single, cohesive holding for their family; Caribou Ranch, guided by a buyer committed to stewarding one of the most iconic ranches near Denver; and Lonetree Ranch, where a search that spanned several years ultimately led not just to a purchase, but to a close friendship and the creation of a true family legacy ranch.

Across all of these properties, the common thread has been a belief that land matters and that how it changes hands matters just as much.

This year gave us the opportunity to reflect on some truly meaningful transactions and to recognize the relationships and collaborations that made them possible. We revisited our work through a series of thoughtful marketing pieces, highlighted several standout transactions, and created a short film capturing who we are as a firm and what has guided us over the past two decades. We brought it all together with a celebration alongside friends, clients, and family at the Botanic Gardens at Chatfield, sharing an evening of dinner, drinks, and the premiere of our 20th-anniversary film.

As we celebrated 20 years in 2025, we did so with deep gratitude for the clients, partners, conservation organizations, and friends who have trusted us along the way. The relationships built over these two decades are the true legacy of this firm, and we look forward to continuing this work alongside a community that values integrity, stewardship, and a long-term perspective.
