Shell Oil applies for water rights on unclaimed water

Under hot controversy this week is Shell Oil’s application for water rights on the Yampa River. It is Colorado’s only river with unclaimed water.

The Steamboat Springs water court has received “opposition letters from 25 federal, state and local agencies, along with businesses and environmental groups.” Concerns range from how Shell’s project will impact the wildlife to rights of way through public land.
